Clove
From the high ranges of Idukki
The uniqueness of our Clove
Naturally grown
Our clove, grown naturally in the high ranges of Idukki, gives nuanced flavours and a stronger aroma to your palate. Warm and aromatic, this small dark brown unopened flower bud gives you subtle sweet, spicy and woody taste notes along with delicate pungent and mint flavours.
From the high ranges of Idukki
Only matured cloves are harvested for processing
Hand-picked
Clove that doesn't come from a field but the farmer's backyard
In the high ranges clove is not a commercial crop. The farmers in these hills generally have a few trees in their backyards and farms for their personal use and is a source of additional income. Every year after the annual harvest and processing, only the surplus, after keeping aside clove for their household uses, are sold. Often intercropped with other spices, they also provide for the bio-diversity in the farm. As a non-commercial crop, this evergreen tropical tree is left in its natural state with the manure being majorly the fallen leaves and rains and sometimes our farmers also use cow dung. And this precisely makes them unique, more flavourful and rich in their contents and one of our favourites.

How it reaches you?
Farmer Us You
Clove trees grow well in elevations above 800m with consistent rain fall and the high ranges offers just the same. Grown naturally along with their other crop, our farmers pay great attention to the harvest process, it being a major factor contributing to the final quality. The unopened flower buds of the clove trees are manually plucked in multiple rounds as only the matured ones, the ones turned into light pinkish colour from light green, are plucked. The harvest season spans the months of March and April. The manually plucked cloves are separated from its stems and then sun-dried over 3-4 days. The clove is then hand-sorted and packed with precision, so that the quality is maintained and shelf life increased. The post harvest activities are undertaken by our farmers at their farms simultaneously with the harvesting.
